South Korean consumer electronic giant Samsung today held the most awaited smartphone launch of the year. As expected, the company took the wraps off from Samsung’s flagship Galaxy S8 smartphone along with the Galaxy S8+. Company’s voice assistant tech Bixby also made its debut right at the beginning of the event.
Galaxy S8 is the successor to the most praised flagship from 2016, the Galaxy S7. Another major reason behind the avid anticipation of the Galaxy S8 was the Galaxy Note 7 debacle and the alleged arrest of Samsung chief, Lee. Samsung hopes to regain the lost market leadership after the humiliating withdrawal of Galaxy Note 7.
Although multiple Galaxy S8 leaks and rumours spilled the details much before the official launch, it didn’t totally killed the suspense.
Without much ado, lets get to the hardware specifications of the Galaxy S8 and S8+.
Display
The Galaxy S8 has a 5.8-inch display, whereas the Galaxy S8+ comes with a bigger 6.2-inch screen. Both have Super AMOLED QHD (1440x2940p) resolution. The screens are certified with UHD association to display the best possible colours. Samsung is calling it the Infinity display because of its bezel-less design and immersive screen to body ratio. The back and front of both the smartphones are protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5. Samsung has retained the Always On Display feature on the newly launched smartphones too.Camera
Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ have 12-megapixel rear camera. As rumoured, Samsung has not used a dual-camera this time around. The rear camera comes with 12 MP sensor, f/1.7, 26mm lens, phase detection autofocus, OIS, 1/2.5” sensor size and LED flash. The front camera is an 8 MP sensor with f/1.7 aperture.
Hardware and storage
Samsung will be releasing two different models of the smartphones—Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 and Exynos 8895. The selection of SoC will depend on the region. Further it has 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage with support for microSD card up to 256GB.
We must note that only the Snapdragon version may ship with a hybrid dual-SIM slot.
