One of the most awaited films of the year, Imtiaz Ali’s directorial Jab Harry Met Sejal starring Anushka Sharma and Shah Rukh Khan has finally released. Many people, mostly SRK fans poured into cinema halls to watch the film. We asked those who trooped in to catch the first few shows, and here’s what they had to say.
“Itni acchhi nahi thi yaar (It was that great!),” said one SRK fan. However, major lot of people who turned up, said that they loved the first half of the film, but the plot was lost in the second half. One such viewer said, “I would’ve loved Jab Harry Met Sejal if it didn’t have the second half.”
A young couple who watched the film told us, “It was yet another Imtiaz Ali film, really. Was expecting something totally different, but this is what was expected from JHMS.”
“Shah Rukh Khan and Anushka Sharma have acted really well, both of them are the only highlights in the film. Ofcourse the film is good looking and the cinematography is great. All the countries in the film are shown very well too,” said another viewer.
An elderly gentleman who watched Jab Harry Met Sejal said, “The film was okay. It isn’t as bad as the reviews I read on the internet. It is a delighting story, with lovely performances by Shah Rukh Khan and Anushka. I really like Imtiaz Ali’s vision.”
A couple of college students walked in to watch the film too. They told us, “The first half was great, the second half could be missed. But you don’t want to miss it because it is a film you expect to be better. The songs are good, some of them.”

In Zaheer Khan, Ravi Shastri and Virat Kohli get a left-handed complement

The appointment of Zaheer Khan as the Indian team’s bowling coach could be a surprise for many, but could turn out to be an inspired selection. One of the craftiest pacers the country has ever produced, Zaheer has been active in the IPL till a couple of months ago. Almost the entire crew of present Indian bowlers — from Mohd Shami to Umesh Yadav and even some of the spinners — have approached him for counsel, and have returned enriched, often with a different perspective. While Zaheer might come across as a little aloof off the field and in the way he speaks, he is involved and articulate, even funny, in the dressing room. He was to several youngsters, a friend, philosopher and a guide, whose door could be knocked at any time of the night. So much so that MS Dhoni once called him the “Sachin of bowling”.
A patient listener, Zaheer’s contemporaries and younger peers would readily confide in him. During the India’s victorious tour to England in 2007, almost single-handedly won by Zaheer and his pace-bowling colleagues, both RP Singh and S Sreesanth benefitted considerably from his advice and tactical awareness. “Of all the bowlers I have bowled with and spoken to, I haven’t seen anyone like him who has the ability to understand another player’s psyche like Zaheer,” RP Singh once said.
Though he never captained his country, Zaheer was more or less the de facto bowling captain-cum-coach of the team in the last phase of his international career. A perpetually chirping Zaheer at mid-off/mid-on was a familiar sight. Almost after every delivery, he would rush to the bowler, whisper something and rush back to his spot.
He has traits that bode well for his fresh assignment – the innate knowledge and understanding of his craft, the natural aggression and passion, the shrewdness and guile, and most importantly, his ability to connect with modern-day cricketers and their multifarious demands.
There aren’t too many coaches around, who have profoundly understood the dynamics of all three formats as Zaheer. There surely isn’t anybody who has played as many T20 matches as him. He has not only kept a keen eye on developments, but has evolved with them too. Just like his bowling, wherein he compensated for the lack of pace with clever use of cutters, slower balls and the knuckle ball as his career drifted into the twilight. He thus brings a great deal of practical wisdom and improvisational ingenuity to the game.
The appointment of Zaheer and Rahul Dravid as specialist batting coach for overseas Tests indicates that the Cricket Advisory Committee and the BCCI are looking at away assignments after ruling the roost at home. Over the two-year tenure of the new coaching team, India travel to places like South Africa, England, New Zealand and Australia culminating in the 2019 World Cup in the United Kingdom. It augurs well for the team’s prospects that they have on board two of India’s finest performers away from home.
Zaheer’s Delhi Daredevils bowling coach and mentor at MRF Pace Foundation, TA Sekhar claims he had realised the left-arm pacer’s leadership and mentoring skills long ago: “I remember even in those days he used to come to the Pace Foundation for training, he used to mentor and give advice to the young trainees there. Dennis (Lillee) used to say in jest that one day he could be my successor here.” Maybe, he wasn’t jesting, after all.
At a time when India’s fast bowling resources are richer than ever, they have someone who can steer them to new heights.

Samantha Ruth Prabhu’s look from upcoming Sivakarthikeyan starrer is stunning.

Samantha Ruth Prabhu started shooting for the untitled Ponram directorial quite recently. The film also stars
Sivakarthikeyan and this is the first time that the two actors will be seen sharing screens pace. The film is being shot in Thenkasi, and Sam plays the role of a village belle in this one. So when she took to Instagram to post a picture of herself from the sets of the film, we did expect to see a desi avatar. She captioned the pretty picture, “No day is the same . #shootdiaries #theshowmustgoon #tenkasi #tamilnadu.” Interestingly, it was for this film that the actor had been training in the traditional martial art Silambam. We wonder what this has to do with her role in a romantic comedy.
Sivakarthikeyan has previously worked with Ponram on Varuthapadatha Valibar Sangam, which was the actor’s vehicle to fame as a commercial lead actor. Sam, on the other hand, will be working with the director for the first time. The movie is being produced by 24 AM studios, the same banner under which Remo – Sivakarthikeyan’s last outing was released.
In fact, if one had to look at the production company’s filmography, it looks like they are dedicated to producing the Maan Karate actor’s films alone. Sivakarthikeyan is also looking forward to the release of Velaikkaran opposite Nayanthara this year, which also happens to be produced by the same banner.
Meanwhile, Samantha is working on multiple projects including the upcoming bilingual biopic of veteran actor Savitri. She will also be seen in Rangasthalam 1985 opposite Ramcharan and Raju Gari Gadhi 2 in Telugu. In Tamil, she will be seen in Mersal, Irumbu Thirai and Aneethi Kathaigal other than the biopic.

Woman ‘beaten to death’ as cat enters neighbour’s house in Pune

A 40-YEAR-OLD woman was allegedly beaten to death following a quarrel over a cat entering her neighbour’s house in Mhalunge, Mulshi taluka. Police have identified the deceased as Prabha Mohan Rangpise, a resident of Mhalunge.

Alleging murder, Prabha’s son Ajay Rangpise has lodged a complaint at Hinjewadi police station.

Police have arrested four persons, including Amol Sandipan Balgude (25), Ganesh, alias Bhaiya Shrimant Patil (24), Akash Rajesh Monde (22), Raju Nandakishor Salve (23), all residents of Mhalunge. Those four have been booked under sections 302, 324, 323, 34 of the Indian Penal Code.

Over 20,000 housing societies in Pune may come under GST

Santosh Maskar, chairman of the Roseland Cooperative Housing Society in Pimple Saudagar, is unclear about the status of his housing society under the new Goods and Services Tax (GST) regime. “Our CA told us GST will be applicable only if the monthly maintenance is above Rs 5,000 per month. But, I also read somewhere that GST will be applicable if the yearly turnover is over Rs 20 lakh. By that definition, we will come under the GST ambit, as our yearly turnover is well over a crore,” he said.
The yearly turnover of a housing society is the amount collected from maintenance charges etc, minus the amount spent on providing services, making new constructions etc. Maskar is yet to apply for the provisional GST number and is waiting for a clarification from the Pune District Cooperative Housing Federation (PDCHF) limited. GST’s ‘one tax one nation’ policy presents a challenge for housing societies which, till date, were beyond the ambit of the service tax. Housing societies with a yearly turnover of above Rs 20 lakh will be charged a 5 per cent tax on the service they provide.
Officers of the Pune Zone of GST said the tax will only be applicable to housing societies if they provide any service — such as swimming pools, WiFI — to their members. “Societies are also recipient of certain services, such as security, gardening etc, so in those cases they will be exempt from the tax. But if they take up construction, then they will be charged,” said the officer.
Several housing societies, meanwhile, seem to be unclear about their status under the new tax regime. In Pune, records with the Cooperative Commissioner show there are more than 20,000 housing societies, whose yearly turnover is likely to be more then Rs 20 lakh. While such societies should come under the GST, majority of them are yet to initiate any procedure to get their provisional GST number. Suhas Patwardhan, chairman of PDCHF, said the organisation has written to Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, seeking an exemption for housing societies. “If housing societies are brought under the GST regime, not only will it increase the hassle, but it will also translate into higher maintenance bills for its members,” he said.
“As per the information available to us, GST is applicable for housing societies if the monthly maintenance charges are more than Rs 5,000 or annual turnover is more than Rs 20 lakh. It would be good if the government can clarify what all heads should be included under maintenance charges. In fact, most of the housing societies, being co-operative societies, feel that they should be kept out of the GST’s ambit,” said Krunal Bauskar, secretary, Kumar Shantiniketan phase-1 Co-operative Housing Society Ltd. Maskar said in case Roseland society has to pay GST, there would be no other option but to pass the financial burden on to their members “This will lead to increased expenditure for our members,” he said.

Amarnath Yatra terror attack: 5 women among 7 killed, 15 injured

Seven Amarnath pilgrims, including five women, were killed and 15 injured when militants attacked a bus carrying at least 56 passengers at Botengo village near Anantnag, on the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway, in South Kashmir on Monday evening. According to reports, most of the victims are from Gujarat.
The attack took place near a security camp on the national highway. A J&K Police spokesman said that at around 8:10 pm, militants first attacked a police bunker at Botengo. “There was retaliatory fire. No injuries were reported. The militants then opened fire at a police naka at Khanabal, and the police returned fire again,” said the spokesman.
“A tourist bus was hit by bullets, and about 18 were injured. Six of them died, while the others are undergoing treatment,” said the spokesman. He said the bus, with a Gujarat numberplate, GJ09Z0976, was on its way from Baltal to Jammu, and was not part of the yatra convoy.
Additional Director General, CRPF, J&K Zone, Sachchidanand Shrivastav told The Indian Express that seven pilgrims were killed in the attack. “There were around 60 people in the bus which came under attack. The bus was coming from Baltal and had reached Botengo when the attack took place. Many other pilgrims are injured, several have suffered serious injuries,’’ he said.
A senior police officer told The Indian Express that the pilgrims had not registered themselves with the authorities. “The main convoy had already crossed the Jawahar Tunnel at the time of attack,” he said.
“The yatris were esteemed guests of Kashmir and the perpetrators have dealt a death blow to the ethos and culture of the state,” said Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, who rushed to the spot. “It is a gruesome attack, not only on unsuspecting guests, but a brazen attack on Kashmir and Kashmiriyat… All of us shall have to rise against this scourge of violence, the sooner the better,” she said.
Condemning the attack, Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted: “Pained beyond words on the dastardly attack on peaceful Amarnath Yatris in J&K. The attack deserves strongest condemnation from everyone…My thoughts are with all those who lost their loved ones in the attack in J&K. My prayers with the injured. India will never get bogged down by such cowardly attacks & the evil designs of hate.” He added that he had spoken to Mehbooba and assured all possible assistance.
One of the injured, Amit, who identified himself as a cook on the bus, told officials at the district hospital in Anantnag that firing took place for 40-60 seconds. “Bullets started coming from everywhere. Everybody was crying. I saw many passengers were lying in a pool of blood. We were on our way from Baltal to Jammu,” he told them.
Earlier in the evening, Inspector General of Police, Kashmir Zone, Muneer Khan, who also rushed to the spot, said six pilgrims had died. “Let me find out the exact situation on the ground,’’ he said.
Meanwhile, the Army, CRPF, and J&K Police Special Operations Group have launched a combing operation in the area, and a high alert has been declared on the entire highway.
Security has been beefed up at the Jammu base camp too. National Security Advisor Ajit Doval called a meeting at South Block, which was attended by top officials from Home, Defence and Intelligence agencies. Officials said there was no immediate plan to call off the yatra.

Spider-man: Homecoming actor wants to fight the incredible Hulk

Actor Tom Holland would like to see the Hulk take down Spider-Man in a future movie. The 21-year-old actor plays the web-slinger in Spider-Man: Homecoming and has expressed his desire to have Marvel’s favourite green giant team up with Peter Parker’s alter-ego for a spin-off because he would love to see them have a face-off, reported femalefirst.co.uk.
Asked who he would like Spider-Man to join in the future, Holland told MTV, “I really like the idea of Spider-Man and Hulk. There’s a really amazing picture from the comics where Spider-Man is sitting on a lamppost staring at Hulk, and I think that could be a really… there’s so many jokes you can make about the big green guy, so I think that would be a lot of fun.” Previously, Hulk has fought with two of his Avengers teammates in Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) – Thor in the first film Avengers and Iron Man in the sequel Avengers: Age of Ultron.
“I think it would be quite interesting to see Hulk try and squash him like a bug, like a sort of big brother-little brother type fight situation rather than a proper fight, just to see them have it off with each other, it would be really fun.” Tom Holland’s performance in Spider-man: Homecoming has been praised almost universally by the critics and the film too has received rave reviews across the spectrum. Tom Holland made a brief appearance as Spider-man before his standalone film in Captain America: Civil War as an ally to Iron Man’s faction.

Sachin Tendulkar’s son Arjun gives injury scare to England’s Jonny Bairstow in the nets at Lord’s

Sachin Tendulkar
’s son Arjun gave an injury scare to England wicketkeeper-batsman Jonny Bairstow ahead of the first Test against South Africa at Lord’s. Arjun, who is 17-years old, was bowling during England’s practice session ahead of the series opener. The left-arm seamer’s first delivery was a yorker, which ended up being a toe-crusher for Bairstow. The wicketkeeper was pinned on the foot, according to a report by Daily Mail.
Bairstow was taken out of the nets after facing only one delivery from the youngster. There is, however, no danger reported as the 27-year old was provided with immediate first-aid, with his foot being placed in a compression unit. He was relieved of pain and there was no threat to his participation at Lord’s.
Arjun has appeared for the Mumbai Under-14 and 16 teams. The all-rounder’s father Sachin owns a property near the historic venue and this is not the first time he has rolled his arm over to the English batsmen.
England take on South Africa on Thursday at Lord’s. England would be led by Joe Root, who took on captaincy from Alastair Cook earlier this year while Dean Elgar will lead South Africa in the absence of Faf du Plessis. This will be the first of the four-Test series, which was preceded by a three-T20I series and three ODIs. England won the T20 rubber and ODI series 2-1. It remains to be seen whether Arjun bowling to English batters will become a usual affair.

Ranveer Singh rings in birthday with lady love Deepika Padukone, takes her vrooming on his new hot wheels.

The heartthrob of tinsel town, Ranveer Singh turns 31 today. And as were waiting for the Bollywood biggies to wish this powerhouse of a performer, we come across the pictures of him ringing in his birthday with none other than his rumoured girlfriend, Deepika Padukone. The duo was spotted together late in the night. Now, what their plans were is not something that we know, but one thing is for sure, Deepika didn’t leave a chance to be with her ‘friend’ on his big day.
If reports are to be believed, Ranveer who is all geared up to play Alauddin Khilji in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus, Padmavati went to pick up his lady love and then the two drove off for a quite dinner at Taj Colaba. Apparently, Ranveer gifted himself a new set of wheels on his birthday and it was nobody else but Deepika who was the first one to sit beside him to for a drive. Well, this calls for a double celebration indeed. Deepika and Ranveer, who have been dropping hints about their relationship without confirming anything, looked too adorable together and we cannot stop swooning over their picture.
The two actors have tried to keep their feelings for each other under the wraps but as we see their social media posts, their airport pictures and their pictures from several Bollywood events, it seems the couple is making only half-hearted efforts. They have been a part of a circle of rumours from them dating, their families meeting, the two getting engaged and finally the breakup rumours. Even Deepika’s ex Ranbir Kapoor, on Karan Johar’s chat show, Koffee With Karan expressed his wish for Ranveer and Deepika to have many babies together.
With these pictures of the Bajirao Mastani co-stars which are no less than proof of their love, we just hope the two acknowledge their relationship out in the public and make it official soon.

Tubelight box office collection day 13: Salman Khan film’s second week business falls to shocking numbers

Salman Khan was very confident with this latest Kabir Khan-directed film Tubelight. But in reality, the actor must be hurt to see that the film could do no great business at the box office. The condition such that the trade gurus too have stopped reporting the exact figures of the film. While in week one, the film earned Rs 102.57 crore, the second week business for five days is 10.10 crore only, thus earning a sum total of Rs 112.75 crore net till date. Salman fans probably had higher exception from the film as his previous projects like Ek Tha Tiger, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Sultan and a few others enjoyed both critical and commercial success. But Tubelight, Salman’s recently released war-drama with brother Sohail Khan has failed to match its own past records.
Salman Khan seems to have been struck with bad luck. According to a Boxofficeindia.com report, this Kabir Khan directorial earned only Rs 1.10 crore net approximately on its second Tuesday. The report also says that the film will probably be out of most of the theatres soon and is likely to stay short of the Rs 120 crore net mark with final business, probably falling in Rs 115-116 crore net range. The film is predicted to face struggle in its third week and if it fails to get one full screen in multiplexes, the collection might drop down to lakh.
Salman Khan’s innocent act could not entertain. The Kabir Khan-Salman Khan duo which delivered the successful Bajrangi Bhaijaan, failed to recreate their magic in Tubelight. The film also stars Matin Rey Tangu, Chinese actor Zhu Zhu, late actor Om Puri and Zeeshan Ayyub in key roles. Shah Rukh Khan’s cameo in the film also couldn’t be of much help, and it looks like the audience preferred to watch Bahubali 2 instead of this war drama.
Expectations from a Salman Khan movie is always very high and Tubelight could not match up to the expectations this time. However, the film has not performed badly either. Many still say it is a one-time watch

Doklam stand-off: Atmosphere not right for Xi-Modi talks at G20, says China

The atmosphere is not right for a bilateral meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the upcoming G20 summit, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said ahead of the G20 Summit in Hamburg.
Amid an ongoing standoff between the Indian and Chinese armies in the Sikkim section, Modi and Jinping will be in Germany for the summit talks. According to a PTI report, Indian sources in New Delhi said a meeting of BRICS leaders will take place on the sidelines of G20 summit tomorrow which is expected to have the presence of, among others, Modi and Xi, suggesting that there was no bilateral meeting between the two leaders scheduled in Hamburg.
Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Geng Shuang expressed hope that “India can immediately withdraw the border troops the Indian side of the boundary to uphold the peace and tranquillity of the China and India border areas”. “I think this is the pre-condition for any meaningful peace talks between the two sides,” he told a media briefing in Beijing when asked about the meeting between Modi and Xi on the sidelines of the G20 summit. He, however, said that the BRICS leaders meeting which will

be attended by Modi and Xi will take place on the sidelines of the summit tomorrow.

Earlier this month, the Chinese Army attempted to build a road at Doklam near the Bhutan tri-junction which lead to the current impasse. State-owned Chinese media, considered to be the mouthpiece of the government, published provocative articles in the past few days, stating that India will suffer “greater losses” than it did in 1962 if it “incites” border tensions with China.
The G20 Summit 2017 is due to be held in Hamburg, Germany, from July 7 to 8. This will be the twelfth meeting of the G20 countries.

Tubelight box office collection day 5: Salman Khan film sees a major dip

Salman Khan’s film relied heavily on the festival of Eid. Unlike its opening day collection which was below expectations, the makers were looking for some good news. But sadly, it only managed to rake only Rs 19.09 crore on the day of Eid, a very low figure for a Salman Khan film in the recent years. The superstar’s dominates this big holiday weekend every year. And 2017 could’ve been equally celebratory for him. However, the harsh reviews from the critics and word-of-mouth on its release day rained on Kabir Khan’s film’s parade. The film has not even managed to cross Rs 100 crore despite being in the theatres for five days now, which has been a regular feature for any of Salman’s Eid release. It stands at a total of Rs 83 crore in four days and is likely to earn about Rs 12-13 crore on Tuesday which was the start of work week for people in India after Eid holiday.
The film is expected to earn a total of about Rs 95 crore after the Tuesday tally. The total Tubelight box office collection of Salman Khan’s Tubelight is expected to be Rs 150 crore, according to trade estimates. Meanwhile, the film has generated an estimated $1.2 million in five days in the US while it has eared $A392,000 ($297,000) on 42 screens in Australia, according to Forbes.
Tubelight earned Rs 21.15 crore at the BO on Friday. The figures remained almost same even on the following days. Saturday’s collections were Rs 21.17 crore, while Sunday recorded Rs 22.45 crore. But the numbers plummeted on Monday. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh shared Tubelight’s box office report on his Twitter page. Taran had also expressed surprise over the film failing to touch Rs 30 crore on any single day till now. He tweeted, “What’s surprising is that #Tubelight hasn’t crossed ₹ 30 cr *on a single day* till now… Not on Sun… Not even on Mon [Eid holiday]… #Tubelight has underperformed on Eid… Generally, Salman films set new records/do roaring biz on Eid, but it’s an exception this time…”
Tubelight is Salman’s first film in the past five years to end up with such meager figures. His last year release Sultan earned Rs 105.53 crore in three days, the actor’s best among his Eid releases so far. Bajrangi Bhaijaan stood at a close second with Rs 102.60 crore for three days, followed by Ek Tha Tiger at Rs 100.16 crore.
Tubelight has also earned $1 million in the US (app Rs 6.62 crore). Though the numbers look decent, the film is facing a tough competition from Allu Arjun’s Duvvada Jagannadham aka DJ in the US. This Telugu film is also tough competition for Tubelight back home. The movie which released with Salman Khan film, collected Rs 24 crore on its opening day, as against the latter’s Rs 21.15 crore. The Allu Arjun film is also inching towards Rs 100 crore soon.
A section of the audience and Salman’s loyal fans are questioning whether the heavy criticism from industry experts was the main reason behind Tubelight ending up flickering at the box office, others claim that the audience is smart enough to decide, and that the film’s weak script and Salman’s non-convincing act lead to the film’s bad collections. Many expected the film to pick up post Eid. However, its dismal performance doesn’t seems to get any respite in the coming days.

2.0: Rajinikanth, Akshay Kumar film’s hot air balloon to flaunt India’s might in Hollywood

The promotion of superstar Rajinikanth’s upcoming sci-fi film kicked off on Tuesday in style with a 100-foot-tall hot air balloon flying over the iconic Hollywood signage in Los Angeles. The giant balloon featuring the characters of Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar, Chitti the Robot and evil scientist Dr Richard respectively, was lifted up after it successfully completed inflation test.
The one-of-its-kind promotional strategy by the makers of India’s most expensive film will flaunt the immense wealth and talent of Indian cinema in front of the world. The budget of the film is said to have crossed Rs 400 crore with the promises of pushing the envelope of filmmaking standards in the country.

The 2.0 makers will float the balloon at various balloon festivals across the world in the coming days. According to reports, after Los Angles, it would be taken to San Francisco, London, Dubai, Australia and many other places. And the balloon will also tour around various cities of India.
The filmmakers had earlier announced that they will be holding a series of events as part of the film’s promotions in different parts of the country and overseas. The producers of Lyca Productions have reportedly earmarked Rs 40 crore just for the film’s promotions. Last year, they spent Rs 6 crore just to unveil the first look posters of 2.0.
The film has music by Oscar-winning composer AR Rahman and a grand audio release is being planned in Dubai. The music album will be released in October. 2.0 was supposed to release this year during Diwali. However, it was postponed to January 25 next year, citing post-production reasons. The special effects work of the film is being carried out at many VFX studios across the world.
2.0, which is the sequel to the 2010 blockbuster Enthiran, is directed by ace filmmaker Shankar. This is the second most expensive and most-awaited film worldwide to roll out from the south Indian film industry after director SS Rajamouli’s Baahubali 2.
