Karachi Kings sign Shahid Afridi as president

Former Pakistan allrounder Shahid Afridi has joined Pakistan Super League side Karachi Kings as its president, the franchise confirmed on Friday (April 7). Even though nothing has been mentioned about his availability as a player for next year's edition, it is expected that Afridi will be formally traded to Karachi from Peshawar Zalmi once the trading window is opened.

Afridi had mentioned last month that he was parting ways with Peshawar owing to 'personal reasons'.

"There are things that I don't want to bring in media but Javed's vision has changed with the time," Afridi said on Geo News. "I don't want to become a hindrance to Javed's goal and vision, because I have my own foundation and a lot of other things. So I can not fullfil his commitments and want to focus on my things as well. I wanted to announce it after the PSL final, but I had couple of commitments with Zalmi, so I waited for the right time."

Afridi led Peshawar in the inaugural edition and then handed over the captaincy duties to Darren Sammy for the second season. He was then part of the championship winning side this year even though he went on to miss the final.
