IPL 2017 Match 38: “We want to finish on top,” says Rohit Sharma after MI beat RCB

Playing their 10th match in the 10th edition of Indian Premier League (IPL), Mumbai Indians (MI) registered their 8th win in the tournament by beating Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by 5 wickets with one ball remaining at Wankhede Stadium on Monday. Chasing a decent total of 163, MI’s chase was crafted by none other than their skipper Rohit Sharma, who played throughout the innings and scored 37-ball 56 not out. Rohit also completed 4,000 IPL runs in the process, thus becoming the fourth batsman to do so. Rohit was also adjudged with Man of the Match award for his match-winning knock. After the match, Rohit seemed happy with his team’s show and considered it as another clinical performance from MI. “We always knew the wicket was good. We could always get to the last over and finish it off. We always wanted to keep wickets in the hand. Overall clinical performance. We bowled and batted pretty well. We won it in the last over, but I’ll take that win,” said Rohit during the post-match ceremony.

Talking about his side’s impressive bowling performance so far, Rohit said, “Very important in this format to keep taking wickets. That is something we’ve been doing in this tournament. It keeps the batsmen guessing. Very happy with the way we have come out and performed in the last few games. We want to finish games in a clinical manner and that’s what we did today.”

This was only second fifty by Rohit in this season of IPL and has not been looked in touch in previous matches. When asked about his own batting, Rohit expressed, “Always good to spend time out in the middle. I’m feeling good. It was just a matter of spending time out. I pick my areas and back myself. You get value for your shots here at the Wankhede. You need not hit the ball hard. Finding the gap is important.”

With this win, they are almost through to playoffs and with four more matches to play, skipper Rohit wanted his team to continue their form in the same manner and end the league with MI at top. “We want to do that (finish top). We want to be ruthless in our approach. The tournament doesn’t end here. We have to stick together and play as well as a team which we have done so far,” Rohit said.

MI’s next match is going to be against Delhi Daredevils (DD) at Feroz Shah Kotla on Saturday, followed by their next three against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
