Celebrating Bengali New Year with an ode to Rabindra Nath Tagore.

Every season exhibits sweetness of it’s own. With mercury rising across the country, nothing else soothes heart better than music. With this in mind, Kolkata's Singing sensation Soumita Saha has come up with a music album titled Nisarga Madhuri. It is a collection of Rabindra Nath Tagore's  songs blended with various raagas of Indian Classical Music.

Nisarga Madhuri, which means sweetness of nature is a bouquet of fusion songs where the sweetness (Madhuri) of Shastriya Sangeet is blended with Tagore’s songs, creating a musical portrait of various seasons. It depicts a mystical journey through the path followed by nature every year. The album Nisarga Madhuri would be released today on April 15 which also happens to be Bengali New Year ( Poila Boishakh)

Poila Boishakh  (also known as Pohela Boishakh) is the first day of the Bengali Lunisolar calendar. It is celebrated in a festive manner across West Bengal, Tripura as well as by Bengali living across the globe. The festival connects all ethnic Bengalis irrespective of religions and regions. in West Bengal, Poila Boishakh is a public holiday while in Bangladesh it has been declared a national holiday. Every year, it falls either on April 14 or 15 of the Gregorian calendar and brings new hope and dreams for Bengalis all over the world.  Nisarga Madhuri blends perfectly with the essence of Bengali New Year.

The first Teaser of Nisarga Madhuri was released on 10th of April, while the second teaser went live on 14th April. According  to Bengali calendar, 14th April is the last day of the year 1423, therefore this day is considered the best time to sing welcome song for the advent of Boishakh.

Speaking about the project, Soumita says that there is one thing common between Tagore’s creation and Indian Classical Music, both praise the beauty of Nature and its seasons. Her attempt is to bring out the intersection of these two in Nisarga Madhuri. She cites several examples like Tagore’s creation for  spring, raagas Basant and Bahar have been blended with Tagore’s song Aji Dokhino Duwar Khola which is a well known song by Rabindranath Tagore. In fact , Jorasanko and Shantiniketan’s Vasanta Utav is incomplete without Aji Dokhino Duwar song. The whole project is an attempt to thank the nature for its sweetness bestowed upon us pretty much inspired by Tagore’s Riturongo.

In this project, she shares the vocals with her father Swapan Saha, who is an eminent Bengali singer and has worked as Playback singer in several Tollywood movies like Rituporno Ghosh’s Hirer Angtee, Tenth July and several other popular Television serials. Her mother Madhumita Saha has penned down the script and has also voiced some of its parts.

Soumita has been under the radar of print and electronic media ever since her childhood days. She has won hearts of millions by her performance in popular Musical Shows like Geet Sangeet by Channel Vision and several other shows on Rupashi Bangla and OM Bangla.  These days, she assists her Father in Music Direction.

For Nisarga Madhuri, the Music has been directed by Swapan Saha  while composed by Kumar Prithviraj, Partha Sarathi Pal & Uttam Ganguly. The recording and mixing has been done by Rana Mondal at STUDIO RJ. The Album  shall be distributed under the banner of SBM CDs and Cassettes.
